In My Mailbox is a weekly feature hosted at The Story Siren in which we showcase books we've received in the past week. Or in my case, in the past period of time since my last In My Mailbox post. I've been lazy blogging lately and all the days are bleeding together and I can't remember which books arrived when.

On lazy blogging, I'll spare you guys the "sorry, I'll get back to it soon! Thanks for staying with me!" post and just tell you now that I'm sorry and I'll get back to it soon! Thanks for staying with me!

Anyway.

In the middle: books bought. I'm especially excited to read The Sharp Time and No and Me, as well as The Extinction Gambit (The Extraordinaires, book 1) since I went to the launch and met the wonderful and clever author Michael Pryor.

In My Mailbox is weekly feature hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren, and if you haven't heard of it before I don't believe you the point is to highlight books we've received over the past week. So, here goes:

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith
I'm very excited to read this one! It sounds adorable. I like the ARC cover, but I think they're using the regular US cover for the final copies.

Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lisa McBride
I'd heard praise for this one around, and it was ridiculously cheap at Basement Books, so what else would I do but buy it?

Matter of Magic by Patricia C. Wrede
This one also came from Basement Books. I hadn't heard much about it, but again, it was really cheap.

The Dark And Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan
And one more from Basement Books. I've already read The Dark And Hollow Places, and I loved it, and it's nice to have a copy now.


Legend by Marie Lu
A surprise from Penguin! I've begun this already (I think you can see my bookmark in the photo), and I'm enjoying it very much so far. I'm not sure whatever happened to the Australian cover, but I prefer this one anyway.


Crossed by Ally Condie
This came with Legend from Penguin. I think I'll begin it soon, but with tempered expectations, since I wasn't overly impressed with Matched. The Australian edition cover is a little different. I really like that they did away with some of the scattering shards, so at a glance, it doesn't look like Cassia's flipping off the Society anymore.

                            

Equinox by Lara Morgan
Thanks to Walker Books for this on.! I'm hosting an interview here with Lara in a couple of days for the blog tour for the release of this one. I'm just about to leave for the library to get the book before this one, Genesis.

Between the Sea and Sky by Jaclyn Dolamore
I began reading this as soon as it arrived. I really liked Jaclyn's first book, Magic Under Glass, and I really liked Between the Sea and Sky as well. Thank you Bloomsbury!

Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie
This one arrived as a surprise from Random House, in a lovely "happy paranormal christmas" package.

Would you look at the Cold Awakening books! I love series covers that fit together like a puzzle, and especially when the larger picture is absolutely gorgeous, like this one.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer
A complete surprise from Penguin! A happy surprise, though. I'm looking forward to reading it.

First Kill by Heather Brewer
Also a surprise from Penguin. I've never read Heather Brewer, but this doesn't sound like my kind of thing. Has anyone read this already?

Wildcat Fireflies by Amber Kizer
More surprises -- this one from Random House. I'm not sure if I'll read it or not.

The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson
One of my favourites from Maureen Johnson! I bought this one to join my burgeoning collection of her books.

Cold Awakening series (Frozen, Shattered, Torn) by Robin Wasserman 
Originally under the names Skinned, Crashed, and Wired. This series has been raved about by some of my favourite authors, and reading an excerpt convinced me that this series will be amazing.

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
One of my favourite books ever! Like many of my favourites, it came from my library, so I didn't own a copy until I bought this one.

Smoulder by Brenna Yovannoff
Also from Simon & Shuster, and under the title "The Space Between" elsewhere, I'm very excited to read this one as well. The Replacement was very good, and I have high hopes for this.

In My Mailbox features are slowly getting more and more frequent, but aren't yet weekly here like they are where they're hosted at The Story Siren. Essentially In My Mailbox is for featuring the books you've received through whatever means over the past week.

In my last In My Mailbox post (was it two weeks ago?), I noted that I'd had a great week for winning books. It seems now that it's been a good month for giveaway wins, with 7 of these books below arriving as prizes. It really topped off a fabulous week, coming home from my last day of high school classes ever, from muck-up day, from the year 12 break-up excursion, all to find books at the front door for me.

• Break by Hannah Moskowitz
  I've wanted this book for what feels like forever, but is actually since I read Hannah's second book, Invincible Summer, and loved it.
  
• When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
  I read When You Reach Me a while back, and absolutely adored it. I'm ecstatic to have won a copy.
  
• Days Like This by Alison Stewart
  This one came from a Goodreads giveaway, which probably made it the most exciting one here. Who actually enters those with a bajillion entrants expecting to win?
  
• Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
  Thanks to Penguin for this one! Hopefully I can make time for it in the near future.
  
• Last Breath by Rachel Caine
  I'm reading this one at the moment, and loving it every bit as much as I loved the others in this series. Thanks to Penguin for this one as well, though I have no idea what I'll do with my pre-ordered copy when it arrives...
  
• Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers
  I love having a copy of Some Girls Are now to sit snugly between Cracked Up To Be and Fall For Anything. I love their colours, and I really can't wait for the lovely blue This Is Not A Test to complete the rainbow of her book spines.
  
• Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
  This is going to be a fabulously creepy read! I've read quite a few books with illustrations/photos lately, and I'm definitely in the mood for more.
  
• Lola And The Boy Next Door and Anna And The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
  Like everyone else, I completely adore these books. I'd scheduled to review Lola a few days ago, but I was too busy to actually get around to writing it, and then too busy to admonish myself for it.

So what did you guys get this week that was uber-exciting? Or simply, what was uber-exciting for you guys this week? Are any other Aussie year twelves who graduated this week reading this?

In My Mailbox is a weekly feature (though only a occasional feature here) hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. In entails the showcasing of books we've received over the past week. So, here's what the postman crammed into my tiny mailbox this week:

This week was a great one for giveaways! All but the three standing to the right were won.

• Imaginary Girls, a signed copy from YA Book Twins.
  I've already read this one, and loved it. It's my Book Of The Month, and there's a link to my giveaway up top if you haven't already entered.
• Anna Dressed In Blood, from Uniquely Moi Books.
  I've already read one as well, and enjoyed it a lot!
• Forget You, from Gone With The Words.
  Another read previously, but I'm happy to own a copy now.
• Between, Forgotten, The Lost Saint, The Dark Divine, Shift, from a Girlfriend magazine competition (I was really surprised to find such a huge package at my door!).
  I've read all of these but Between before, but the blurb has me excited to start it. I never looked twice at it before, since the cover made me think "self-published" and I've had rocky experiences with those, but it sounds good.
• Drink Slay Love, for review from Allen & Unwin.
  I think this is coming out here in December, and even with the back of the ARCs quasi-spoiler, I'm excited to read this.
• Silence, for review from Simon & Schuster.
  I have trouble looking at the cover without chuckling, so maybe I'll put a random jacket cover over it while I'm reading so I don't distracted.
• Hush, Hush, bought for Becca's events here in December.
  I had a copy before but traded it. I always end up trading away books by authors who announce tours here a few weeks later. Or maybe it's the other way around, authors come here because I trade their books.

I didn't notice while taking the photo, but the beanie (point A) and pink sock (point B) I used to help hold this haphazard position are visible.
Also on the photos, I'm glad the alcove at the foot of my bed is now useful for something besides storing my unicycle, even if that use is as lame as a backdrop.

• Where It Began by Ann Stampler Redisch
  I'm very excited to start this one! I'll probably break my posting-reviews-around-release-date principle for it.
  
  
• Devilish by Maureen Johnson
  Maureen Johnson became my favourite author at some point during the week two years or so ago where I borrowed all of her books from my library and read them back-to-back. I've decided to finally collect all of her books, and Devilish is my first.
  
  
• Angel Arias by Marianne De Pierres
  I finished this a few days ago, and though it took me a while to get into it, it was eventually amazing. Thanks to Random House Australia!
  
  
• Sweetly by Jackson Pearce
  I've read both of Jackson Pearce's others books and watch her vlogs, but I was still pleasantly surprised with Sweetly. Thanks go to Hachette for this one.
  
  
• Daughter Of Smoke And Bone by Laini Taylor
  I'm almost half way through this, the first I've read of Laini Taylor's books, and oh my god. I knew she was supposed be an amazing wordsmith, but some people just say that about all writers. But wow. Many thanks to Hachette again!

Also, my library moved this week into the tiny, local VU campus while the old one is renovated. I usually just put what I want to read on hold and collect it, but the new arrangement is so much more clear that I browsed for a while and realised that our library has relatively new releases. When did that happen? Anyway, here's what I found:

• There Is No Dog by Meg Rosoff
• Fairy Bad Day by Amanda Ashby

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. For it, we highlight books we've received over the past week.

• Ballad by Maggie Stiefvater (from my amazing sister because of my A on the Chemistry mid-year).
• The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong (from Cecelia at Adventures of Cecelia Bedelia).
• So Much Closer by Susane Colasanti (also from Cecelia).
  I don't think I've ever mentioned how much I enjoy Susane Colasanti's books here before but I really enjoy Susane Colasanti's books. Think Sarah Dessen with a sprinkle of Courtney Summers.

The big pile in the middle are books I bought:

• Betrayals by Lili St. Crow
• The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray.
  I've only read the first book in the Gemma Doyle series, but I'm excited to read the other two as well.
• Blue Bloods, Masquerade, and The Van Alen Legacy by Melissa De La Cruz.
  Again, I've only read the first one, but I enjoyed it more than I expected, so I snatched these up.
• Looking For Alaska by John Green.
  The American edition! The Hill Of Content Bookshop had so many editions of books that aren't published in Australia.
• If I Stay by Gayle Forman
• Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings by Megan McCafferty.
  These together were only $1 from this amazing second-hand bookstore in Carlton.

The books standing to the right came for review:

• Bloodlines by Richelle Mead (thanks to Penguin).
  This was a total surprise, arriving just a few hours after my friend and I were talking about it.
• Fury by Elizabeth Miles (thanks to Simon & Schuster).
  Another that came as a surprise.
• Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (thanks to Allen & Unwin!).
  I've already read this one, almost immediately after getting it. I lent it to my friend as well, and we spent most of the week gushing about it.
• Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson (thanks to Simon & Schuster).
  Another I've already read. My review should be coming in a few days time.
• All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin (thanks to Pan Macmillan).
  Not pictured because I'm reading it at the moment. Very good so far!

All the stores closing is incredibly sad (Angus & Robertson's huge store was reduced to just a few shelves at the front. Even selling furniture!), but man, it's fun picking up so many books you can hardly carry them all in the sales.

I've never been to a second-hand store in my life, and I was really surprised at the great quality, and how organised and wide the selection was! I always imagined books in arbitrary stacks on tables, cracked spines...
